Gestalt Workshop: Working with Couples: Toward Intimacy – Lynda Osborne
In this workshop, we will consider the intimate basis (Wheeler and Backman 1994) of relationships in couples. While some couples avoid intimacy or do not experience it as a problem, in my experience, one or both partners nevertheless pay attention to the lack of intimacy in their relationship. This often includes a lack of sexual intimacy. What might be the longings, fears and situational conditions that affect this intimate contact in the relationship, and what support might be needed to change?
In this workshop, we will explore how we can best work with this familiar issue, acknowledging both the individual stories that couples bring to their relationship and the history of their relationship. We will draw on theoretical discussion, experiential exercises and case materials to consider those skills and interventions that can best support this work.
