Understanding Gestalt, Episode 3: Gestalt as an Existential Approach
In this episode, Malgosia Cynker and Kamil Torczewski take us on a fascinating journey through the existential dimension of the Gestalt approach. They discuss how Gestalt psychotherapy connects to questions about life, death, freedom, responsibility and authenticity. They discuss how the Gestalt therapist supports the client in confronting difficult, often uncomfortable questions that concern the essence of human existence. They point out the importance of being present in the moment here and now, of being open to a diversity of experiences, and how Gestalt therapists help people restore meaning and authenticity in their lives.
Margaret also highlights how the approach can support not only individuals in therapy, but also therapists in their own professional and personal process, especially in the context of working with difficult emotions and dilemmas that arise during therapy. This is a truly inspiring episode that not only expands our knowledge of Gestalt psychotherapy, but also raises important questions about our own lives and choices.
