Healing Trauma – a description of the Workshop with Rafael Cortina:

Traumatic childhood and life events shape the way an individual perceives himself and the world, which has a direct impact on relationships, self-perception, coping skills, self-esteem, etc. Unfortunately, a common and initially effective way to cope with the impact of trauma and adapt to the world is through addictive behavior. They bring temporary relief and anesthetize emotional and relational pain. The goal of the workshop is to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between addiction and trauma, the role of the nervous system, adverse childhood experiences, and polyvagal theory, and to apply this knowledge within the framework of Gestalt psychotherapy to promote recovery.

This training will emphasize teaching the clinical model of trauma and addiction treatment by presenting the relationship between addiction and trauma, the role of the nervous system, and the application of this knowledge within a Gestalt/relational approach. The goal is to help clients develop their ability to explore the frontier of contact and build new experiences that can lead to opportunities for growth and healing.
