Gestalt Workshop: Working with Couples: Toward Intimacy – Lynda Osborne
Sometimes, when a couple comes in for a session, it’s easy to imagine that the same words and interactions have been repeated many, many times, and a sense of being stuck prevails. The therapist’s interventions seem to have little or no effect. This raises the question for all three people: Can the therapist help at all?
There are many factors that may have contributed to this impasse. For example, we can see how past problems in the relationship are now recurring, contributing to this repetitive, stuck dynamic. In this workshop, we will explore this and other possible underlying causes of this process.
Relationships offer potential for healing and growth, as well as new opportunities. The challenge for the therapist and clients is to find ways to support these possibilities. In this workshop, we will draw on our theoretical understanding and practical experience of Gestalt psychotherapy to support this healing potential when encountering an impasse.
