Event description:

Prof. Giovanni Salonia – Gestalt workshop: working with families in the Gestalt approach

The workshop will be an introduction to Gestalt family therapy incorporating Prof. Giovanni Salonia’s proprietary approach. The author will present the “dance of chairs and pronouns” model, which focuses on the embodied identity of the family, where it is important for the therapist to observe alliances, contact-building mechanisms, distance versus closeness between individual members. Giovanni Salonia will present an approach to understanding family dynamics focusing on the function of the family’s self-personality, paralleling what in structural family therapy is called intergenerational transmission, which is “the order of love written in human bodies.” During the workshop, we will learn how to observe the family bodily tissue so as to understand where stiffening occurs and where we can see the opportunity for openness and creative adjustment in finding solutions and pursuing living contact. The workshop will include a theoretical part and simulations of work with families that will demonstrate the application of the model in practice.
