BodyMind Gestalt Therapy and Field Theory – a description of therapeutic training:

BodyMind Gestalt Therapy (BMGT) is a holistic body-centered approach that has its roots in the pioneering program created at the Cleveland Gestalt Institute by James Kepner and his colleagues, and later developed into its current formula by Arye Bursztyn at Tel Aviv University.

From a BMGT perspective, our body is intelligent, with the ability to self-organize and self-regulate.

Experimentation in BMGT is not just a set of learned practices and established ways of doing things. BMGT practice increases awareness of breath, grounding and centering, expands awareness of sensations, movements, micro gestures and body organization. All of this supports the building of contact and embodied presence.

It is a well-known statement that the therapeutic relationship is healing. In Gestalt and BodyMind Gestalt therapy, the therapist builds an open, honest and inclusive dialogue through various and multiple forms of communication, not only verbal, but also through movement, imagination, art, attunement, empathy and his own embodied presence. The therapist with his whole self contains, creates and co-creates contact with the other person.

The entire field is immersed in the therapeutic field, recognizing that each person brings what is current and alive in him for the moment, at the same time with all his past experience and the context in which he lives. We accept, contain and embrace the whole person, with everything he or she experiences. Amputating and rejecting some aspect cripples and prevents experiencing fulfillment, joy, vitality.

What nourishes us, soothes us, regulates us is the experience of contact. Since the beginning of our existence, we have existed in a relationship. We learn that we exist in contact with the Other. It is another person who touches us, sees us, hears us, reacts. We see ourselves, we feel ourselves in border contact. I perceive myself, through you, you perceive yourself through me. There is an exchange between us, a fluctuation, alive and feeding both of us. We need the Other to grow. Through the embodied presence we grow, we live.
